Karen Humby
Karen Humby is originally from Gander NL, attended Memorial University and has remained in St. John’s for most of her career.
In 1998 Karen started her career in Occupational Health and Safety with WorkplaceNL and for the past 11 years has been working as a Safety Advisor with ExxonMobil/HMDC.
Karen says the highlight of her career, so far, is getting the opportunity to travel offshore via helicopter (being an aviation geek!), and spending time with the ExxonMobil offshore family.
Personally, Karen recharges her batteries with a daily Pilates practice, walks outside while enjoying a good podcast, and gardening. As the current President of the Positive Thinkers Club NL, Karen says she is very fortunate to surround herself with positive people.

Behavior Based Safety is more than just hard hats and safety glasses. It is the person behind those glasses: their thoughts, experiences, bias, training etc., and all play a role in decision-making at work. “You’re Only Human” will take the Behavior Based Safety concept further into the science behind why workers make decisions they make in the workplace and how safety leaders can recognize, support and coach the workforce.
